BLACKFOOT JIU JITSU & FITNESS
Gym Rules & Policies
Our goal at Blackfoot Jiu Jitsu & Fitness is to provide a clean, safe, respectful, and focused environment where every student can learn, improve, and enjoy training. These policies apply to students, parents, spectators, and guests.
PARENT VIEWING POLICY
Parents are allowed to watch the 5–9 year-old class on the first Tuesday of each month.
Outside of the designated viewing day, parents and spectators are asked not to remain and watch class unless they have prior approval from an instructor.
This policy is intended to keep the students’ attention on their instructors and training. When parents and spectators are present, younger students can become easily distracted and lose focus on the class.
Limiting spectators allows the instructors to maintain a productive training environment while helping students develop independence, confidence, and better listening habits.
Parents and spectators should not coach or give instructions from the sidelines. Please allow the coaches to teach and correct students during class.

GENERAL GYM RULES
1. Respect Everyone
Show respect to instructors, teammates, training partners, parents, visitors, and students of every rank and experience level.
2. Hygiene Is a Priority
Come to class clean and maintain good personal hygiene.
Gis, rash guards, shorts, spats, and other training gear must be washed after every use.
Keep your fingernails and toenails trimmed to prevent scratching or injuring your training partners.
If you need to shower before training, please do so. Nobody wants to be the stinky training partner.
3. Arrive on Time
Students should arrive early enough to be dressed and ready when class begins.
If you are late, enter respectfully and join the class as soon as possible without disrupting instruction.
4. Keep the Mats Clean
NO SHOES ON THE MATS.
NO BARE FEET ON THE FLOOR.
ALWAYS WEAR SHOES IN THE BATHROOM.
If you step off the mats, put your shoes on. Do not walk into the restroom barefoot and return to the mats.
Keeping the mats clean is everyone’s responsibility.
5. Listen to the Instructor
When an instructor is teaching, stop talking and pay attention.
Follow the class structure and practice the technique or material being taught.
Students should not ignore the lesson to work on unrelated techniques during instruction.
TRAINING ETIQUETTE
6. Tap Early, Tap Often
Training is not worth getting injured over.
If you are caught in a submission, physically tap and verbally tap when necessary.
There is no shame in tapping. Learn from the position and continue training.
7. Control Your Movements
Technique and control come before speed and strength.
Do not rely on uncontrolled speed, strength, or explosive movements that unnecessarily place your training partner at risk.
Train hard, but train under control.
8. No Sideline Coaching
Parents and spectators should not coach students from the sidelines.
Allow the instructors to teach and allow the students to focus on the instruction they are receiving.
9. Be a Good Training Partner
Adjust your intensity based on your partner’s age, size, experience, and skill level.
Your training partners are there to help you improve. Take care of them so everyone can continue training.
10. Leave Your Ego Off the Mats
Jiu Jitsu is about learning and improving—not proving who is better.
Winning or losing during practice means nothing.
Some days you will have great rounds. Other days you will struggle. Both are part of getting better.
SAFETY & CONDUCT
11. Report Injuries Immediately
If you or your training partner are injured during class, notify an instructor immediately.
Do not attempt to hide an injury simply to continue training.
12. No Roughhousing or Disrespectful Behavior
Bullying, intentionally hurting another student, uncontrolled aggression, or disrespect toward instructors or teammates will not be tolerated.
Hard training and controlled sparring are encouraged. Reckless behavior is not.
13. Respect the Tap
When someone taps—release immediately.
Never intentionally crank a submission, ignore a tap, or continue applying a submission after your partner has tapped.
Protecting your training partner is your responsibility.
14. Stay Home if You Are Sick
If you are sick or contagious, stay home until you are well.
Do not risk spreading illness to your teammates.
If you have a contagious skin condition or suspect that you may have one, do not train until it has been properly treated and you are safe to return to the mats.
UNIFORM & GEAR
15. Proper Training Attire Is Required
For Gi classes, students must wear a clean and serviceable gi.
For NoGi classes, students must wear appropriate training attire such as a rash guard and grappling shorts or spats.
Training clothing should not contain exposed zippers, sharp objects, or anything that could injure a training partner.
All training gear must be washed after every practice.
16. No Jewelry or Sharp Objects
Remove rings, earrings, necklaces, watches, bracelets, and other jewelry or accessories before stepping onto the mats.
Anything that could scratch, cut, catch on, or otherwise injure another student must be removed before training.
